Module 5: Process Plant Economics and Flow Assurance Studies

Activities

  • -Alternative Analysis Engineering Studies.
  • Facility Costing and Sensitivity Analysis. Determine CAPEX, OPEX, NPV, DCFRR, ROI, and PBP.
  • -De-bottlenecking Studies.
  • -Hydrate Studies.
  • -Flow Assurance Studies-Hydraulic and Sensitivity Analysis.
  • -Depressurization and Blowdown Studies.
  • -Determination of LTCS or SS length required to guard against fatigue stress in CS during Blowdown or depressurization.

Objectives

    At the end of this module, participant will be able to;
  • 1. Conduct high level costing and sensitivity analysis to determine best business case using appropriate economic indicators i.e. CAPEX, OPEX, ROI, NPV and PBP.
  • 2. Determine Hydrate formation points in the course of a gas transmission or Blowdown operation and hence advice appropriate mitigation technique.
  • 3. List the conditions that favor hydrate formation under normal, offset, pre-startup operation and hence plan to mitigate hydrate formation.
  • 4. Conduct Flow Assurance studies on piping/pipeline networks to determine best combination of piping/pipeline sizes to guaranty production in the desired fluid direction and hence determine Pressure, Temperature and Flowrate using specialized flow assurance software, specifically Pipephase by Esscor Simulation Sciences.
  • 5. Know the difference between depressurization and Blowdown operations.
  • 6. Develop simple macros to determine length of LTCS/LCSS/316SS required to guard against fatigue failure in CS piping due to depressurization or Blowdown operation.
